This week we have been learning......

5th March 2018

This week we have been learning more about finding and making fractions. We know about the numerator and denominator and we’ve been working with ½, ¼ and 1/3. We’ve done lots of good short writing about our stories in a familiar setting using our special conjunctions and punctuation. We loved moving on from drawing portraits to doing observational sketches of fruit (apples, pears, bananas) using tone and shade techniques and we have explored printing. In science we have been sorting and classifying different plants and flowers so we will looking out for them to grow in the spring time and we have continued to learn about Lent and making good choices as Father Phillip reminded us on Ash Wednesday. We’ve also been very busy preparing for Mother’s Day!

26th February 2018

We have had another busy week this week working on the familiar setting of The Enormous Turnip and Mudpuddle Farm. We have been using adjectives, WOW words and our senses to describe the setting. In maths we have been finding halves and quarters of objects, shapes and numbers. We have looked at the bottom number (the denominator) and drawn that number of plates. We have then used jottings to find the fraction.

On Tuesday we had lots of fun exploring the snow outside and then wrote some fabulous descriptions about waking up and seeing the snow and playing in the snow at school. In the afternoon Mrs Bull came into class to tell us about being a Eucharistic Minister because we are learning about the Eucharist in RE. We also acted out receiving Holy Communion.

We enjoyed coming to school dressed up on Thursday for World Book Day and we talked about the character we were dressed up as. This year’s theme was bedtime stories so we did a tally chart of what time we go to bed, read some bedtime stories and talked about bedtime routines. We loved designing our own pyjamas for a special character from a bedtime story.
