Friday 16th March 2018 - This week we have been learning....
What a wonderful week we’ve had in school. We have written some brilliant stories in our English lessons based on The Enormous Turnip and Mossop's Last Chance. I was very impressed with the children’s joining words and story language. We re-visited finding quarters of amounts in Maths. This has been tricky, but we have demonstrated good understanding and our homework should help to consolidate this number skill. We have learnt about the reasons behind Ash Wednesday in our R.E lessons and used religious words and phrases to begin to describe this special day. On Tuesday we enjoyed a themed day all around equality and diversity as part of our learning about British Values. We also celebrated the Commonwealth as part of this exciting day. On Thursday, we enjoyed a jam packed afternoon of Science to celebrate Science week. This was a very messy but fun afternoon as we explored and discovered through a range of investigations. In computing we have begun to make simple animations.
After such a busy week, we are all definitely in need of a restful weekend!
Friday 9th March 2018 - This week we have been learning....
We have continued with fractions this week. The Year 1s have moved on to finding quarters and we talked about how to find 2 and 3 quarters. In our English work, we have been making predictions about Mossop and Mud Puddle farm, and sequencing the story of the Enormous Turnip. We have moved on to our new R.E topic; Opportunities. We have begun by talking about opportunities at home and school to make good choices. As part of our Science work, we explored different flowers and sorted them based on petals, colours etc. and thought about our own categories for sorting. We have looked at internet safety and how we must not share our personal information with anyone online. WE have created some wonderful prints in art using string and different coloured paints. We have been looking at healthy eating in PSHE and enjoyed some outdoor P.E. I hope you have a restful weekend, and we look forward to a a new, busy and exciting week.
Friday 2nd March 2018 - This week we have been learning....
What a busy and cold week we've had! We have been find halves of numbers and amounts, and the year 2s have been finding trickier fractions like thirds, and three quarters. We have begun reading our English texts - The Enormous Turnip for Year 1 and Mossop's Last Chance on Mudpuddle Farm for the Year 2s. We have been making predictions and linked our World Book Day activities to these. World Book day was wonderful, the children's outfits were wonderful and it was fantastic to see the effort. We enjoyed lots of different activities, but a particular favourite was making our own turnip biscuits! YUM! We have been watching our plants grow as part of our science. We put lots of preparation into our assembly which was a huge success and I was very proud of the children and their performance. We enjoyed some snow play as a treat too, and made a wonderful snowman, complete with carrot nose!
Here we are making turnip biscuits.
23rd February 2018 - This week we have been learning....
We have been very busy this week! The year 2s have worked very hard and we have been doing some practise quizzes. The Year 1s have been exploring doubles in maths and practising their sentence writing skills.
In the afternoons we have been learning about the Eucharist and the Last Supper in R.E as part of preparations for our class assembly.
The year 1s have been planting cress and the Year 2s have planted a bean in a grow bag. We are excited to observe their growth over the next few weeks.
