Art and Design

Art and Design at St. Teresa’s is a subject which captures the creative minds of children. They enjoy exploring different skills and techniques, which link to specific artists.

Children within key Stage 1 start to use materials to design and make products, they develop a wide range of Art and Design techniques in using colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space. They learn about a range of artists, craft makers and designers through a creative topic.

Within Key Stage 2 these skills are developed further to improve their mastery of art and design, exploring through drawing, painting and sculpture with a range of materials. They learn about great artists, architects and designers in history. We have started to create a sketch book approach to art, where the children focus on the process of learning a skill, rather than just the outcome.

Within school we are constantly participating in competitions and ways to showcase the artistic talents at St. Teresa’s.
